Hell

Just below waking consciousness they wait

They are legion, held in great detail, buried

They are the:

–       regrets and embarrassment of things undone or done poorly

–       guilt and shame of our times of manipulation and control

–       angers and judgment directed at others and ourselves

–       instances of self hatred, self sabotage, humiliation

–       grief, unending sadness of our isolation and aloneness

–       and so many more

They are hell

They stand between us and divine, luminous darkness

Not part of the darkness, but a barrier to it

As we deepen our practice we sink into hell

And ironically, when we express our longing for the divine, the divine reaches up to us, hoping we will transit hell and return to the divine. But this reaching up “stirs” the elements of hell.

We recoil. Hoping that hell will “leave us alone”, and not haunt our dreams and torment our meditation

When we are willing to address and come to terms with hell, our hearts can become light as the proverbial feather and we can transit back and forth from this world to luminous darkness.
