The past sits in front of us – waiting – for another round
While we imagine we are in the present, looking to the future
We hope for “normal” – knowing normal is toxic
We enjoy “routine” – knowing routine is unconscious
We yearn for security, predictability, control, “the tried and true” – knowing they stifle us
We think we know who we are – identity, preferences, alliances – all from the past
The same conversations, complaints, arguments, outrage and anxiety – all recycled
We are frozen, absent and separate – going through the motions – fitting in
Held in stasis, both emotionally and in time, by younger parts of ourselves
Mistaking comfort, convenience, self-interest, and entitlement for living
Our many facetted, small, comfort zones for aliveness
Yes, the past is alive within us – in front of us – waiting for another round
Choices
Do we resolve and release our inner, ancestral and collective trauma
Or just continue to medicate and manage the symptoms
Do we continue, separating left brain, right brain, heart brain, earth brain, divine brain
Or do we re-connect our inner parts, our relationships, our communities, our earthness
Do we continue to expand our intellectual knowledge, understanding, and insight
Never acknowledging the injustice of our social and cultural ethical transgressions or expanding our conscience
The new year is predictable – doing different, but being the same
We have been recycling the winter of the past for many, many years
Never thawing, never releasing the creativity within
Will we creep to the edge of the past – realizing we have been reliving it
Will we choose a new path to the blossoming of an inner spring?
Of softness, fierce love and authenticity
