One of the most significant challenges in spiritual work is the release of trauma.
Trauma that we hold within from past experiences, often from earlier ages.
Until the trauma is released we cannot be whole or fully present, and the trauma will likely express as physical symptoms. We all hold trauma.
One effective way of releasing trauma is to recall past events and write about them. Recording, acknowledging what happened, it’s impact upon us, and our emotional responses.
This in not a thinking activity.
When writing we are connecting with the trauma and transferring the energy of the experience to the paper and as we re-member we also express and release the emotions associated with the experience onto the paper.
Consequently what we “write” is often a mix of words, phrases, expressed emotions, symbols, doodles, diagrams and drawings. Whatever will effectively express the trauma and transfer it to the paper. Use whatever size and type of paper and pens are needed.
Feel the energy of the trauma go down the arms and into the paper. Skin to paper.
And let the tears fall on the paper.
Work and push as deep into the experiences as possible, then burn the paper with the clear intent of releasing the trauma and all associated energy into the fire.
Then take a break.
And then repeat the process.
Each time we will go a little deeper and release more of what is hidden and more tightly held within. Pain or other physical symptoms often point the way to further work. We may have dreams of synchronistic encounters that direct us deeper into the exploration.
And after each session of re-membering, burn the paper and release everything to the fire.
And express gratitude to the trees for the paper.
With deep trauma it often requires many sessions to completely explore and release what is within. Often when we think we are “done” we find another layer below.
To complete the process, burn the paper and send the energy of trauma into the fire.
By repeatedly and systematically exploring, re-membering, and releasing we can go deeper and deeper into ourselves and set ourselves free.
