Scanning

Scanning is a technique to bring us into present and expanded awareness. It can be applied to our body, emotions, thoughts, energetic state, and the world around us. It can lead to greater consciousness, spiritual growth, and healing.
Fundamentally it involves consciously managing our awareness and focussing it.

Scanning is based on curiosity – intense curiosity.

It is a valuable and flexible tool and can be:
– practiced anywhere
– done quickly or slowly
– done as often as we like and is easily repeated to build skill
– done as deeply as we like and focused on whatever we like (see scan list below)

When learning, it is useful to work on the basics and keep scans simple. Even simple scans can lead to surprising results.

A simple example of basic scanning:
Practice scanning whenever entering a room.
Scan the room – look at and notice what is in the room, and where it is.
Scan your body – for example – where are you tense?
Scan your emotions – for example – are you calm or anxious?
Scan your thoughts – for example – are you clear or jumbled?

When leaving a room, repeat the scan and note what has changed.
Are things in different places than when you entered? Did you intend to leave them in the places they are?
Notice what you have in your hands – did you put anything down or pick anything up?
Rescan your body, emotions, and thoughts – what has changed.

The reason to scan when entering and leaving any room it that it creates an easy to remember “trigger” to encourage practice and build skill.

As we progress with the technique we can become more sophisticated in discerning the subtle shifts in the state of our body, emotions, thoughts and internal / external energetics.
Over time we can develop a baseline awareness of our state of being and our surroundings. When things change we can be aware of the changes and better able to respond resourcefully.

With practice we can scan to learn our personal triggers and patterns. We can then scan deeper to determine the cause(s).
We can also scan back in time to retrieve relevant information.

As we build skill and speed in scanning we can add to our scanning repertoire. The following is a list of some types of scans and examples of what we can focus on in each type of scan.
Body, emotions and thoughts – ever deepening in discernment
Intention – are you clear on what you are doing and why
Intuition – is what you are doing, or about to do, supported by your intuitional knowing and inner guidance?
Breathing – is it steady or changing; fast or slow; deep or shallow; and more subtle descriptors
Heart rate – is it steady or changing; calm or pounding; and more subtle descriptors
Energy state – is it tired, energized, neutral; and more subtle descriptors
Energy field – is it expanded or contracted, smooth boundary or ragged, symmetrical or lopsided; and more subtle descriptors
The energetic state of: the space around you, and the objects in the space – subtle shifts in colours and vibration.
The energetic state of people around you
The connections linked to your energy centers
The state and activity of your energetic and other subtle bodies
The presence of, and messages from, spirit guides, allies, deities, etc.
And other more advanced items of interest

The following are additional examples of when to use scanning.
When you decide to do something – scan to determine where the intent for action arising from (e.g. emotional discomfort vs. inspiration).
When you complete something – what is your internal response to completion.
When you are going to meet someone; and when you leave them.
When you leave home; and when you return home.

Scanning will lead to new ways of seeing and brain processing. Scanning will also assist you to shift to 3rdeye and heart vision / awareness.

Become the witness of yourself.

Happy scanning !!!
