Squirrel

We are often faced with a situation in which a messenger from nature shows up in our lives. Sometimes they “invade” our homes, boats, cars, bodies, etc. and are seen as adversaries to be eliminated because of the damage or potential damage they can do. However they often have important messages for us.

This is an example of inquiry and learning from one of nature’s messengers.
A squirrel makes her home in the attic of a house.
The owners are concerned about the squirrel’s presence – they feel “invaded”, and are concerned about the damage that may be caused by the squirrel.

Inquiry into the squirrel and the responses of the people can be conducted on many levels.

Overview
To gain an overview of the messages we may utilize material from books and cards that describe how to interpret animal presence. However, specific inquiry into the situation can yield more valuable and personal learning.

On a basic level
The squirrel has found an entry point into the house and has “invaded” the space.
Inquiry reveals that one of the people in the house has a hole in their energy field that is allowing entry of undesirable energy. This hole is larger at night when the person is sleeping and less aware of their field.
Inquiry reveals that one of the people is often in a space of expanded energy and power. They are unaware that they often expand into, and push other people’s energy.
When a messenger “invades” it is often a mirror of how we invade others.

On a deeper level
The squirrel is heard to be gnawing on something in the attic and running back and forth.
One of the people is afraid that the squirrel will gnaw into the electrical wires. Inquiry reveals that this person is at risk of a condition where the sheaths of their nerves are damaged.
One person is disturbed by the squirrel running back and forth overhead at night.
Inquiry reveals that this person is holding deep trauma resulting from lying in bed at night as a child and listening to their parents argue back and forth.

More could be learned by deeper inquiry into the more subtle actions of the squirrel and people’s responses.

If the messenger is becoming more active or more destructive it is often a sign that they are desperately trying to get our attention and that time may be running out on something to be learned.

In light of the value of what we can learn from nature’s messengers, and then make positive change in our lives, it may be more appropriate to build them houses and feed them in appreciation, rather than get rid of them.

May we all be blessed by, and understand nature’s messengers.

Note: This was written to honor a squirrel who was removed before all her messages were received and understood.
The interpretations in this example are applicable to the situation described only; they are not transferrable to other squirrels, houses or people.
